Intuition

There is a place where a crystalline estuary 
and the Pacific Ocean become one.
It is there that I come alive.
Five fishermen return home, their skin 
wrinkled into landscapes of labor,
their boats empty from a fruitless catch.
Tomorrow we will try again.
But today they surrender to what the river has to offer –
camaraderie and the bravery of honoring what doesn’t last. 
We float through a maze of mangrove swamps, receiving
the ancient wisdom threaded in their roots.
It is there that I hear the call.
To become a provenance of something gathered 
for we are a compilation of every person we’ve ever been.
So why not live in friendship with our deepest desires?
Listen closely, the waters begged.
