The night before, we walked to shore beneath a charcoal sky, and soaked our feet in bioluminescence. It seemed senseless, how something so miniature and quiet could mesmerize my entire world. Our usual conversations on life and hope and love fainted into deep stillness as we wondered if the stars had made their way into the vast sea. Upon waking, I searched for scenes that would prolongate the boundless peace still resting in my chest. Seagulls raced across the rising sun, and I heard the flickering breeze knock against an unfinished surface. Someone, in their own quest for beauty, had tied six broken shells to the branch of a washed-up tree. And now, this trivial creation embodied the meaning of mastery.
There’s a certain calm we discover when befriending the inconceivable. As if witnessing magic spread beneath our being brings us closer to our truth when the world is asleep and our brokenness becomes art and all that remains is the recognition that anything in our life that slows us down is to be valued.
