The Wave

i watched them paddle into the vast ocean
fighting the speed of the morning current
miles of discipline for momentary bliss
but isn't that what we’re here for?
to live so fully that each breath carries a magic of its own?
to be so immersed in the unfolding of existence 
that we learn to pour love into our own fragility?
to be so open to failing that we become students 
of our own mastery?

we all go through pain and loss
he said, as the next wave crashed into us 
testing our own resilience 
but if you're brave enough to stay, to swim 
no matter how often you’re carried to shore 
the sea will open up to you 
and that ultimate surrender will lead to your breakthrough
for what you’re seeking has always been
